St Ann Businessman Developer Again Denied Bail
KINGSTON, Jamaica:
For the second time in three days a magistrate has denied bail for prominent real estate developer, Christopher Kerr, saying she has doubts about his identity.
"The real issue for me is, I don't see who I am bailing," said Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court this morning.
Kerr has been charged by the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Task Force with four counts of forgery and two counts of uttering fraudulent documents.
Prosecutors, in strenuously objecting to bail, told the court that Kerr owns an aircraft and is a trained pilot.
In addition, prosecutors say he is a Canadian citizen and the holder of a United States visa.
However, defence attorney, Hugh Wildman, denied that his client owns a plane.
Prosecutors have claimed that Kerr has three birth certificates, three passports, two driver's licences and two sets of taxpayer registration numbers.
However, Wildman maintains that his client, who was born Donovan Watson Kerr, did a deed poll and changed his name to Christopher Watson-Kerr.
He also said his client has been conducting business in the name of Christopher Watson-Kerr.
However, Pusey was concerned about the name Christopher Watson-Kerr, saying a deed poll cannot be used to change a person's last name.
"This is a serious matter it's not just a deed poll," she said.
